The BPSU is a joint initiative of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Public Health England, and the UCL-Institute of Child Health. The BPSU aims to encourage the study of rare conditions in children. Such conditions though individually uncommon collectively affect thousands of children, many seriously. Over its existence, the BPSU has facilitated and enabled paediatricians to participate in national epidemiological surveillance of rare childhood conditions.
