The British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) was launched in 1986 to co-ordinate the collection of UK-wide data on rare childhood conditions and uncommon infections.  The BPSU is a joint initiative of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Public Health England, and the UCL-Institute of Child Health.  The BPSU aims to encourage the study of rare conditions in children. Such conditions though individually uncommon collectively affect thousands of children, many seriously. Over its existence, the BPSU has facilitated and enabled paediatricians to participate in national epidemiological surveillance of rare childhood conditions.

The International Nursing Group for Immunodeficiencies (INGID) was formed in 1994 by nurses who were working with children and adults diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency disorders.  INGID is run by members, for members. It is managed by a Board of experienced nurses in immunology who are volunteers and who are elected at the INGID conference that is held every 2 years in a different country.
